1. Check for Control System Updates
Outdated firmware is one of the most common causes of lagging preset scenes or dropped connections. With remote monitoring and updates, the team at Brian Potter Electric can check on your Control4 system and confirm that the controller is running the latest available update. If it’s not, we’ll send over-the-air updates to improve system performance.
2. Check Your Network Switch and Router
A summer of guests and heavy streaming can expose bandwidth congestion you didn't notice back in the spring. We'll check that your switch and router firmware are up to date, look for Wi-Fi channel overlap if there are other nearby networks, and make the adjustments on the spot.
3. Clean IR Receivers and Sensor Eyes
Dust and humidity build up fast this close to the water, and a sluggish keypad is often nothing more than a dirty sensor. Gently wipe down keypads and remote IR receivers so your commands register as intended.
4. Inspect LED Drivers for Flicker
Any flickering or dimming inconsistency in your automated lighting is usually the first sign a driver is nearing the end of its life. We'll check your fixtures now and swap anything on its way out before it goes dark mid-dinner party.
5. Test Backup Power and Remote Batteries
Battery-powered remotes and handheld controllers drain faster during heavy summer use. We'll test those, along with backup batteries on any UPS units protecting your AV rack, so nothing fizzles out right when you need it.
6. Run Your Shades Through a Full Cycle
Salt air and seasonal temperature swings can cause motorized shades to drift off their travel limits. We'll cycle them fully and recalibrate anything that's started to stall or overshoot.
7. Check Outdoor Audio and Lighting Fixtures
Outside, we'll inspect exposed speaker terminals for corrosion, especially near water or the pool deck, and give your exterior camera housings and lenses a once-over. Salt spray builds up on lighting fixtures just as quickly as it does on speakers.
